Ge Jianxiong, a distinguished professor at Fudan University, holds a PhD in history and is a doctoral supervisor. He is a member of the Social Science Committee of the Ministry of Education, a standing committee member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a curator at the Central Institute of Culture and History.

Ge Jianxiong's ancestral home is Shaoxing, Zhejiang. He was born on December 15, 1945, in Huzhou, Zhejiang. Formerly served as the director of the Institute of Chinese Historical Geography and the Center for Historical Geography at Fudan University.

Appointed as a professor in 1991, doctoral supervisor in 1993, director of the Institute of Chinese Historical Geography from 1996 to 2007, director of the Historical Geography Research Center of the Key Research Base of the Ministry of Education from 1999 to 2007, and director of the Fudan University Library from March 2007 to March 2014.
