Other participants includes the representatives from think tanks, NGOs, universities, and research institutions in Southeast Asia and South Asia. CCD director first took India as an example to analyze and elaborate on the same or similar challenges faced by Asia in energy transition. These challenges may appear in the financing of renewable energy projects, the pressure on the grid system to absorb renewable energy access, and the land acquisition conflicts and negative ecological effects that may be caused by the promotion of renewable energy. CCD director emphasized that Asia should avoid “rushing” to promote global energy transformation without proper contemplation and planning. CCD director advocated the importance to carefully handle the relationship between various stakeholders, and diversify the financing channels of renewable energy projects through green bonds, sovereign wealth funds, hybrid financing and other means, so that Asia can truly enjoy the dividends of energy transformation. The speech of the Chairman of CCD was widely recognized by others participants, providing valuable ideas and directions for promoting energy transformation in Asia and even the world. Other institutions attending the closed-door seminar included the Philippine Department of Energy, the Philippine Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities, the Philippine Climate Justice Organization, the Indonesian Institute for Basic Services Reform (IESR), the Energy Research Center of United International University, Bangladesh, and the Bangladesh Water Defenders Alliance.
The CCD team discussed with representatives from ASEAN countries how to enhance climate resilience and prevent climate disasters by strengthening cooperation between China and ASEAN. These institutions from ASEAN countries include think tanks, research institutions, NGOs, such as the Philippine Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC), the Philippine Climate Justice Organization, and the Indonesian Institute for Basic Services Reform (IESR).
The Chairman of CCD exchanged views on climate finance with Kaditia Kanal, the head of infrastructure capital markets in Asia Pacific at the World Bank International Finance Corporation (IFC). Kaditia Kanal introduced to the Chairman of CCD the opportunities and bottlenecks in the financing of renewable energy infrastructure projects in Asia.
